icon Mechanical was the mechanical engineer and contractor for this project which serves as a manufacturing facility and office space for the manufacture of Blue Origin’s next generation, liquid-fuel rocket engines.
The 400,000 square-foot Blue Origin facility is located on 46-acres and contains a significant amount of automation, machining, cleaning, assembly integration, avionics components, building and testing, and advanced industrial welding.
Amazon CEO, Jeff Bezos owns Blue Origin and constructed the jet engine manufacturing plant for the purpose of building the BE-4, touted as the world’s most powerful engine fueled by liquified natural gas.
Project Approach and Scope
This project used an integrated-delivery construction method providing a catalyst for open communication among all team members.
icon was responsible for the design and prefabrication of multiple technical gas types and pressure lines, including multiple Nitrogen gas loops of 6,000 PSI, 3,000 PSI, and 150 PSI. The effort also entailed a 350 PSI Argon gas loop and a compressed-air loop.
The HVAC portion of the project consisted of icon designing and managing the installation of 30 HVAC roof-top units.
