Mechanical Construction

icon Mechanical served as the mechanical contractor for the tooling installation in General Motors' newest 380,000 SF Body Shop. As part of its scope of work, icon unloaded and reassembled pre-built robotic cells and installed the water and air utility piping that powered them—the majority routed between the trusses, 25–30 feet above the floor.

Disciplined coordination, sequencing, and layout were the keys to success: careful scheduling preserved access as floor space filled, and constant communication between crafts brought the cells online in their designated power-up sequence. A strong safety plan made it possible to install pipe safely amid the congestion.
