icon Mechanical served as the design/build mechanical and plumbing contractor for this LEED Platinum project. This project consisted of new office and conference spaces, a new vivarium building, renovated offices, renovation of existing lab space, and creation of three new labs in the existing building.
icon Mechanical worked closely with the owner to challenge the necessary air change rate required to safely operate the labs. This led to reduced airflow, and reduced energy consumption in the lab spaces. Due to this, the area of the building was doubled, but the overall cooling demand only increased by 50%.
The new office building is conditioned using an Under Floor Air Distribution system to provide energy savings and individual comfort controls for employees.
Chilled water is produced by two nominal 250 ton chillers with provisions in the piping system to allow the addition of a third 250 ton chiller to provide cooling for a future office and lab expansion.
In order to renovate the existing laboratories, all of the existing labs were shut down. With time being of the essence, icon Mechanical helped to create an aggressive 3-week schedule to renovate seven labs and get Novus back to business as usual.
icon Mechanical collaborated with the project’s energy modeler and LEED consultant to ensure the project’s goal of obtaining LEED Platinum Certification was met.
